Baga Beach in Goa

Baga beach which is an extension of Calangute beach and situated ten km west of Mapusa. It is a part of 30km stretch of beast coastline along the west coast of Goa by the Arabian Sea. It is really very difficult to identify from where the Baga beach starts and where the Calangute beach ends. This beach is blessed with a picture perfect scenery. Gushing white waves of the Arabian sea touches the feet of the brown sand of the beach and very gently wipe out the foot marks.

Baga beach which has an edge over the other beaches, due to its quite atmosphere and isolated location is surrounded by creek , wooded headline and palm groves. It is a calm and unspoiled beach, ideal for fishing and lying lazily. It is more popular among the international tourists as they use it for various kinds of adventurous water sport. The Baga river which creates a pleasant diversion for the children flows down from one side of the beach. A group of black rocks against which the sea crashes is the meeting point of sea and the river.

The poised and amicable atmosphere at Baga beach comes alive with its nightlife filled with glitz and glamor. All thanks to the British package tourists who loves to stay here for quite a long time turns the tranquil nights into lively nights. A hotel named “Tito's” has the only dance floor and a hefty sound system at Baga Beach.

The best time to visit this marvelous beach is from November to February.

Baga Retreat House:
One can enjoy a small trek up the Baga hill to reach the Baga Retreat House. This house which was dedicated to St.Francis Xavier was established in 1953. Anjuna flea market which is situated to the other side of the hill, offers an nice option for excursion.

The Medicinal Springs :

A trip to the Medicinal Springs at the beach is a must for all, as it believed to cure all our ailments if we bath here. The narrow road past the Bom Viagem Convent along the cashew covered foothills will lead you to these medicinal springs at Mottant. It is an ideal location for picnics.

The Sea Cure:
Sea cure is a special kind of treatment for arthritis and joint pains which is very famous among the Goanese people. This is an ancient practice which is performed every year around the mid-May. In this kind of treatment old ladies sits on the periphery of the sea with their back towards the sea during the high tide and let the waves splash their back. This is believed to be a sure shot remedy which circulates blood in the body.


Water sports and fishing:

This is a perfect beach for para sailing, water skiing and windsurfing. It is advisable to learn some basic tips before you engage yourself in this kind of water sports. Despite of less water sports options, Baga still manages to attract a great number of tourists every year. Fishing at the Baga beach is a nice past-time.

Baga beach has a good range of sea side restaurants from standard beach shacks to swish pizzerias to terrace cafes, unmatched in whole Goa. Here you can opt for candle lit dinner with your beloved person. These beach side restaurants serves traditional Goan meal, continental and tempting sea food
